I was not born to be an archeologist
I use creams now to protect myself
Maybe a summer visor, sunglasses
Steak sandwich under each arm

I am not always comfortable
In a world where bread is the enemy

I want no more than what the richest man
Wants for the thing he loves the most

A clean quiet corner
Where I can burn some gas.

Ripping off the cure
Like ripping off a band aid

We are all born to be archeologists
Inspect the bottoms of our feet
Count the groove in our teeth

Our gift is that
We can stop at any time

Dissecting the chicken nuggets
Listing things from best to worst

Trying to decipher what the boys
Are saying on the other side of the glass

Infinitely searching for another place
To be ourselves

We can stop that for now
Stop and just listen

Waking up in the sewing room
A world of possible attachments

Rabbits dance on the top shelf
Safe from anxious dogs breath

Here we are free to roam
And sniff where we choose

We  lose our chains
By not breaking the chain

Love is clever and never perfect
It is sweet and low
It is Shakers of salt and pepper
Little tin cups
Old people at a table
Talking about their feelings

Happiness lives in an
Infinite number of places

Within the oily gears of a record player
On a park bench beside a grocery store
The skin of a turnip
The bottom of a peanut jar

Listen to the birds sing
They sing when they are in love
They sing when they are hungry
They sing wen they are scared
We can’t tell the different

The birds help us pass the time
They are not there to
Steer the energy
They are merely there to
Mask the distractions

I prepared this for you
You greeted me with a smile
And that has made all the difference

As the giant slowly removes
His foot from my chest

I awake

In dreams we make love to the fat
Play cards with the pilots
Pick my teeth with tree branches

The morning is filled
With dirty carpet
And minor victories

Broken noses and
Stressed out waiters

The quiche of the day
Is melting in the glove box

Sticky rain and foggy windshield
The rules change with each pit stop

You’ve become kind with the
Dependence of strangers

Coincidentally stereotyping
Scolding the scolder
Learning how the faucet works

The hands are not always out to get you
Sometimes they are there to wave
To hold the flowers
Show us where the wind
Is blowing from

The cat at the top of the stairs
Has been waiting for us
His eyes are speaking like Alien waves
We must get very close to hear them

We must risk the hisses
and the sandpaper tongue

Who knows?
It could be good news
